I just found an interesting article about Nana Kwaku Dapaah II, who is the Paramount Chief of the Mo Tribe in Ghana.  It is a few years old, but it gives some great background if you want to know more about him.

Looking for a 40 foot shipping container

February 7, 2008 · 1 Comment

We are getting close to needing to purchase a shipping container.  I spoke with Robert Mader of Pro Truck and he encouraged me to get a refrigerated container.  I told him that the village that we are taking it to doesn’t have electricity.   He said that the reason that we want that kind is because it will be insulated.  When the sun beats down on the container in Ghana, it won’t affect the inside of the container.

Since we are looking to use the container as a school room or possibly a medical clinic once it is unloaded, I thought his insight was very valuable.

UPDATE ON 4/15/08 AFTER RETURNING FROM GHANA:

****It is not necessary to have a refridgerated unit!  They use plywood inside to insulate them once they are empty.  I saw many containers being used as businesses in Accra and none of them were insulated.  If anyone has access to a 40 foot (seaworthy) shipping container and would like to donate it to get a tax-deduction, please let me know.  *****

We would love to get a container donated!  We are connected to a 501(c)3, so any donation would be tax-deductible.  Currently, we have a possible lead for a container for $1000.  If you know of anyone that would be willing to donate a container, please let me know.

My basement is getting filled up with all of the wonderful donations that we have received so far.  I am so excited to be getting whole sets of encyclopedias and we even received a whole box full of 30 brand new deflated soccer balls.  We still have lots of room in the container, so keep the donations coming!

As we were driving in the car yesterday, my daughter all of the sudden said “Mom, when Clark Davis (Mission Director) was over in Bamboi, Ghana the people wanted to read his camcorder manual because they were so hungry for anything to read.  Imagine what they are going to do with all of the encyclopedias!”.  It was one of those precious moments when she really realized what a HUGE impact we are going to have with this project.

If you would like to be a part of this project, please e-mail me at dustiet@juno.com.  Together, we can make the world a better place!
